Watch out world… Here I come?

But then I spent the next 145.6 minutes watching reels on the ‘gram…

Or so I thought, until I attempted to start my projects, paper, etc…. I can really just spend 20 minutes on the ‘gram or this crossword will only take me a few more turns to finish… And then it’s been another week without any progress on this dream of mine.

Here’s the thing, when we have a dream or maybe a more down-to-earth goal, it can be really hard to take the steps to see it through.  Sometimes, it’s because we dont’ know the steps and so… How can we fulfill the dream if we don’t know what to do next?  Other times, it’s because let’s face it… I’m really really good at avoiding the items on my to do list.

Procrastination is a frustrating and challenging habit to break. Many of us have things we know we should do, but we keep putting them off. One of the keys to overcoming procrastination is finding your inner motivation.

Motivation is what drives us to take action and achieve our goals. When we have a strong sense of motivation, we are more likely to stay focused and avoid distractions. However, when we lack motivation, we can easily become distracted and procrastinate.

So how do you find your inner motivation? Here are a few tips:

  1. Identify your values and priorities: Start by thinking about what is most important to you in life. What are your values and priorities? When you have a clear understanding of what matters most to you, it becomes easier to focus on tasks that align with those values.

  2. Set goals that align with your values: Once you have identified your values and priorities, set goals that align with them. For example, if you value health and fitness, set a goal to exercise regularly. When your goals align with your values, it becomes easier to find the motivation to take action.

  3. Break tasks into smaller steps: Large tasks can be overwhelming and can lead to procrastination. Break tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. This makes them feel less daunting and easier to accomplish, which can help boost your motivation.

  4. Use positive self-talk: The way we talk to ourselves can have a big impact on our motivation. Use positive self-talk to encourage yourself and build your confidence. Instead of saying, "I can't do this," say, "I can do this, and I will do it well."

  5. Reward yourself: When you accomplish a task or reach a goal, reward yourself. This could be something small, like taking a break to enjoy a cup of tea, or something larger, like treating yourself to a massage. Rewards can help reinforce positive behavior and increase motivation.

Remember, finding your inner motivation takes time and effort. Be patient with yourself and keep working on it. Over time, you'll develop the skills you need to overcome procrastination and achieve your goals.

And… remember to tell yourself when you do get distracted… “Oh! Yeah, that was me goofing off. I’m back at it now.”

Beating yourself up is not helpful or productive. So notice that you had a really hard time feeling motivated, give yourself the gift of realizing that…. and then you can move on with all those cool steps above….

Moving right along…
